Tough times

It has been 7 months or so since I last drove a big truck. This and the economy is going to make it hard to return. I have been using my cdl however. I have been driving a school bus locally since leaving Millis.

I have learned that most carriers are short of freight right now. They are not replacing their older trucks as quickly and are not expanding. On top of that they are swamped with applications. Thousands of highly experienced drivers are unemployed right now and people who have become unemployed from other sectors are believing that driving a truck is their best chance of getting a job. Truck driving schools are doing a booming business even though driving jobs are getting hard to get.

I called Millis to see if they would take me back again. The recruiter I talked to said that they are only accepting students to go through their school at this time.

Next I call Conway Truck Load. They are the former CFI that I almost went to when I first started. Conway is hiring but they won't hire me now because it has been too long, 7 months, since I last drove OTR.

I called Roehl. They quickly told me the same thing and hung up.

This is going to be harder than I thought.
