Back on the Road Again

Well, I hitched a ride with a Millis driver on Friday the third and on Saturday I was checked in to the motel in Germantown WI. Monday through Wednesday was orientation. Anyone who has gone through an orientation for a truck driving job knows what a long slow process it is. Day one starts with going to a clinic for a drug screen and a physical and then wearing out a ink pen signing papers. Days two and three are reading the company manual and getting comdata cards and such. Mostly it's waiting around for the drug screen to come back.

Since I have been out of a truck for so long I was required to go out with a trainer for a week to get checked out. On Wednesday afternoon I was introduced to my trainer. He is a 17 year safe driver in a T2000. We got along well having similar interests in motorcycles and nature. He also welcomed me into his home during the Easter weekend. I am very grateful for that.

So, on Wednesday the 19th we ended up back in Richfield WI. A KW T2000 was waiting for me in Cartersville GA. I was given a Freightliner Columbia half truck that they needed in Cartersville and a beer load to pick up at Miller in Milwaukee to get me there. On Thursday afternoon I dropped the beer load in Cartersville, turned over the POS Freightliner and picked up the T2000. Except for the cigarette smell it's a beauty. I have spent the weekend getting my stuff in it and working. I will head out tomorrow morning to 'parts unknown'.

So now my blog will actually be an 'OTR Journal'. It will be about where I am and what I see and experience.
