Back on the road and back online

Well, I’m back on the road and my laptop is fixed. It took a complete slick and rebuild. It takes forever to reload Windows with all of the updates and patches.

I started on Tuesday. To get going I did a freebie for the company by fetching a trailer from some lot on the way to East Point. Then I got my load information. A glass load to Ridgeway VA.

It turns out my dispatcher is on vacation. I don’t even know who I’m being dispatched by. After getting it there I got a rush load to Randolf MA. I get there but not without a little trouble. The spring that holds the brake lines up on the trailer broke and they start dragging on the road. This is bad. I was alerted by another driver and I pulled off to the side of the road. I was able to make a temporary repair with some good zip ties.

After getting to Randolf the man at the desk there was a little annoyed that I showed up without an appointment. I was there when I was told to be. I wonder why the rush?

I get sent down to New Bedford MA for a load of aluminum cans going to Oswego NY. The problem with this kind of load is that you have to scale it loaded then scale it empty. You also have to sweep out all of the cans that dislodged from the bales. There are thousands and they are nasty and sticky. Then you have to go to a trailer washout place. It’s a lot of extra work. I guess that’s what happened when your dispatcher is on vacation.

I’m done with all of that can business and have a pretty good load plan. I get to rest up today and the tomorrow, Sunday, I go ti Niagara Falls NY for paper rolls going to Fond Du Lac WI. That’s more like it.

This is the first time I have gotten to write in my blog while on the road. I hope to update it nearly every day.

Now I think I’ll watch a movie and go to bed. “The Shawshank Redemption” looks good.
