What a day. It started well. I started at 4am and it was smooth sailing to Pontoon Beach. The drop was easy but the customer wouldn't give me an empty trailer. Dispatch sent me to East St. Louis where we have a drop yard and I found one there.
Now the fun begins. The Cardinals have a game. I get nearly to the river on I55 and the bridge is a parking lot. It takes an hour to go the last 5 miles to Anheuser Bush. I get my load, 46,200 lbs, 78000+ gross and get going. One mile onto I55 there is a low boy flat bed that has lost his oversize load, a giant, tracked backhoe, on the ramp to the bridge. Another parking lot. Finally I'm east bound and finally get away from the stupid Illinois 55 mph limit. In Kentucky, just past Paducah, I start to smell something. I pull off on the US62 exit in Calvert and into the LOVES truck stop. When I come to a full stop I see blue smoke in the front of the truck which is very bad. Blue smoke could be a tire on fire and that is very bad. I stop away from the fuel island and any other trucks and check it out. It turns out that the alternator belt and a following pulley have failed.
So here I sit.
Millis impresses me again. I report the problem and Kenworth Premier Care calls me to tell me that a service truck will be here in about two hours. I thought I might be sitting here until Tuesday. I will just spend the night here. My load doesn't deliver until Tuesday anyway.
