I made it down to Georgia on Sunday and stopped at the Millis, Cartersville, terminal to wait for Monday morning and the appointment in Rome. I didn't have to find out if the customer would be open because around 9pm I get a message to drop that load in the yard and go to East Point to get a glass load going to Ridgeway VA. It seems that another driver is broken and can't get there for this load. Now I wish that I had gone to sleep when I got there because I had to drive all night.
I hate to drive at night but in this case it isn't that bad. Any time you can get through Atlanta when there is no traffic it's a good thing. I got the load and started out at 1am on Monday morning. I there on strong coffee and loud music. I made it in to Ridgeway by 10am in time for the 10:30 appointment. When I got empty I got another load assignment. More glass to be picked up in Ringold VA and deliver in Albany GA this morning.
I'm burning through my HOS (hours of service) and my endurance capacity at a fast pace. I had to plan when I can drive legally and when to go through places like Charlotte, where hundreds of thousands of race fans may jump out on I85 at any time.
Finally, I made it to the Miller brewery in Albany just in time for the bottom to fall out of the clouds as I am dropping the trailer. I am at the Albany terminal now waiting for my ass to catch up. I am completely out of hours but will get a few back tomorrow when I am supposed to start home time, so I hope to get a load early that will get me there.
Hey Bob!! Sounds like you're having a good time :) I love the "waiting for my ass to catch up" comment! We've felt like that many times!
