I got jerked around

I came into the Richfield area this morning and got a message to drop this load here at the terminal. It delivers tomorrow so I hoped that meant that there was another load ready to go now. Wrong. About 15 other drivers were here waiting for loads. So I dropped the trailer and took a nap. When I woke up I had a message. Not a load but a message to call the safety department. It turns out that I have been selected for a random drug screen. I have to drive to Milwaukee to pee in a cup. When I get back to the terminal I get the two sequential beeps that always means a load assignment.

Great, loaded from Miller going to Ft Worth TX. I reply with a simple question, "can I pick it up in the morning?". Big mistake. My dispatcher left for the day after sending me the load and another guy saw this as a chance to screw me out of my load and give it to one of his guys. I argue but it seems that, while it is easy to take a load off of me, it is somehow impossible to take it off of the other guy a give it back to me. I realize it is pointless to argue with someone who can screw you from afar so I will discuss it tomorrow with my dispatcher.

Now I have a trip with less miles picking up in Janesville WI and delivering in Syracuse NY., where I just came from. Just great.

Lesson learned, never send a message when your own dispatcher is not there.
